I listed an old Apple TV today on Facebook Marketplace.

My description was the following: "2nd Gen Apple TV. Still works fine from what I've used with no issues."

Which is 100% true. The Apple TV itself works fine. I plugged it in and it started up no problem. However I realized the original remote doesn't work. I have another remote that works fine (which I used to wipe the Apple TV). It's the previous generation Apple remote. It's white instead of the the silver remote they were sending when my unit came out.

It sold today, the buyer didn't send me any messages about it. Out of nowhere I got an email that it was sold. I sent the buyer a message, saying I'd send both remotes and the other one definitely works, and that if she knew someone that could fix the original, then she'd have two working remotes. That was at 5:52 PM. As of this post the buyer hasn't responded.

So now I can ship it as planned and run the risk of the buyer seeing the message too late or not at all and being unhappy when it arrives, or waiting for her to respond and then accuse me of trying to scam her for not sending the item.

I never even mentioned a remote in the listing, so I guess she should just be happy she's getting one, but I don't know if that's looking at it wrong.

Facebook's policies state I have to ship within 3 business days. So that means by Thursday. What would you do?

It's a good question. I'd probably wait until she responds, or you at least have confirmation that she read the message. It's hard to say, but if the apple tv came with a remote, they might well just expect that it's coming with one, since it's needed to function

Good point, however, for the tech savvy, there is an iPhone/iPad app that will let you control the Apple TV. Though I don't assume everyone knows that.

The lack of communication on FB is rampant. I get the message frequently “is this available?” Yes. Shouldn’t that be followed by another question, like, “Will you take x$ for it?” Or, “when can I look at it?” Or “When can I pick it up?” Or any number of questions about the item itself. But no, just “Is it available?” Then nothing. I don’t get it.

Sorry for the rant.

I assume the item is paid for? I’d go ahead and ship. If you’re including a working remote along with the original, I wouldn’t worry too much.

If for some reason the buyer complains, what is the return policy?

You could ship it and include a hand written, or typed, note with the details about the remotes on top of the unit so she sees that message from you as soon as she unpacks it.
I agree with the comment about the assumption a working remote is included even thought I wasn't explicitly stated. When we sell a bass guitar, we don't always say the strings are included, but it's pretty much a given that the bass guitar will ship with strings on it unless explicitly stated otherwise in the listing.

To play devil's advocate - if the bass didn't have any strings on it in any of the pictures, would you expect it to have strings?

The only picture in the ad was the Apple TV itself.

Marketplace is downright bizarre. I get more people saying "I'll take it" and not following up than I have ever experienced on Kijiji or anywhere else. its really weird. Not to mention the many many many many "Is this available".
