Wow eBay/PayPal sure have slipped

A friend of mine has that same stipulation on his PP account. I don't because mine's set up as a business account, even though I'm not doing that anymore. That whole conglomeration is such a pain in the butt I'm surprised there are still people willing to sell there. I did one last sale a little while ago and got hit for 10%, plus the few points that PP took. That was enough; never again as a seller. I may still buy there, but between the protections being taken from the sellers and the huge percentages, I'm done giving them any more money.

Can someone clarify what it is you're talking about?
Well this is what happens for me so I have no idea if it's the case for everyone: Something I have on ebay sells today. The buyer pays today. I ship the item. The funds are in my paypal account but I can't transfer it to my bank account till at least 3 or 4 days after the item is delivered. For me, it's been like that for years. I'm not sure why the OP is surprised by this.

I think the OP got an e-cheque payment, either that or he is a first time ebay seller.

If the buyer pays from their bank account it has to transfer like a cheque, so you need to wait for it to clear.

If you are a new seller on ebay they hold your funds for 21 days, this time is reduced when you get a better reputation. I don't think it goes to the point where it immediately clears but I don't sell much on ebay. If they did not do this people would start bogus accounts, sell crap, and cash out before it gets delivered so you cannot file a claim. I have never experienced a hold on a private sale, only on my ebay sales.

They do this once in a while for some dubious reason. I think that the REAL reason is that they want to hang on to your money and make some additional interest from it for those few days.

I still can't believe that someone else (helloooo Google) hasn't come up with a competitive auction site that doesn't rip people off. I'd rather something sit on CL for 3 months than sell it on eBay with their egregious fees and total disrespect for sellers. Once they eliminated negative feedback for buyers I knew what they were all about.

They started doing this, or at least it started happening to me, around 2008ish. A 21 day hold on your money unless you can provide tracking and prove confirmation of delivery or the buyer leaves you positive feedback. They won't release the money until one of those three stipulations are met. I was told it because I didn't have 100 transactions or something at the time. Then someone else told me it was random. The last time it happened I complained until they released it. I never used them to sell again. It's ridiculous because they hold all of the money, including shipping. So while even if they didn't hold the money you'd still have to wait for it to clear your bank, you still would have only had to wait 3 or 4 days to get the money for shipping instead of 21. That is unless of course you ship through PayPal, but with the hold, you don't have access to the money even then.

I have 100% feedback rating on over 160 transaction. Shipped the amp out last week with a tracking number and I still have no money for it plus Im out the $100 it cost me to ship it. Never will I sell on ebay again.

Did you enter the tracking # into paypal? It should have verified that it was delivered unless you shipped it through USPS. I don't believe it can verify USPS delivery.

I just sold a guitar on ebay and it's very annoying. The policy is that you do not get your money until 3 days after the item has arrived. And the guy who bought my guitar is really annoying me. He paid Friday, then sent a note Saturday night saying "did it ship, what's the tracking #?" I told him that it was not worth it to have it sit in a warehouse all weekend. Then he told me to "pack and ship it tight" and to put the label on the top of the box. Wow! Really? Is that how I should do it? Thank you oh wise wizard of ebay.

This is why I haven't sold on eBay on several years. It's good that buyers are protected, but when I sell something it's usually to buy something else. I'll buy on ebay, but not sell. I guess if your a business that can afford to wait for access to funds it still works....

Wait... so they are doing this to everyone now??

I knew about the 21 day thing for noobs, but I've been on there for 10 years with hundreds and hundreds of perfect feedback. Ive always gotten my cash instantly upon payment. I haven't sold anything in a few months, but I'll be damned if they're holding my money for 3 days after something is delivered!
