Asking price has zero reflection on "what they are going for" there are literally hundreds of eBay sellers with absolutely stupid BIN prices. I really can't understand why most of them even bother. I just got a 1982 JV squier strat which is worth 700-800 actual selling price. Yet, when you do a search for '57 squier JV there are sellers asking 2k.
Do these sellers really think people are stupid enough to bid without looking at completed listings or other current auctions?
I don't get it.....must be a tax scam of some sort.

You must be aware that musical instruments, and just about everything else, in Australia are really expensive. Possibly double the price in the US.

If you look around on eBay, everyone is selling something for $150, and someone sells it for $400, check the location. Its gonna either be in the UK or Australia.

Smaller market, further to ship, strong economy, possibly import tariffs, expensive workforce all combine to make things ridiculously expensive there.

It extends to virtual goods too, which boggles the mind. Same game on Steam sell $49.99 elsewhere and $89.99 in Oz. Makes no sense. By all means bring your instruments to sell them in Australia.

Squiers don't go for that much... a brand new Squier CV jazz can be bought for $583.00 AUD, VM jazz for about $510. A Squier Affinity jazz can be had for less than 300 bucks, brand new. This is just some wanker trying to rip off some unsuspecting soul.

Squiers (and every other instrument) are a lot more expensive here too. My CV Jazz was priced 580 $ new. CV Precision is actually a bit more expensive and is at 600$!
I was looking at Fender Jazz Road Worn, and new one is priced 1590 $!
Usually, if something is 300$ in USA, it'll be around 300€ in Europe.
But here in Croatia, they add 1 more zero (300 into 3000) and put our currency.
300€ is then 3000 kn, which calculates to 405€, which is 546$.
Prices really friggin suck here.

That's because our AU$ is up so much yet no one's bothered to adjust their prices to match this, even though we're now comparing prices with overseas products on a 1:1 basis now! Not the retailers faults, it's generally the importers.

At least you can buy MIA Fenders for pretty close to the prices overseas.

As for Squiers, the CV PBass RRP is around $800-900 isnt it?!?!!

Yeah, everything's really expensive here as well. $800 NZD for a Squier Deluxe Jazz, $350 or so for an affinity series, $180 for a Bass Big Muff etc etc...

There are pretty high duties on certain things, despite us apparently having one of the worlds freest economies. I looked at buying a bass from overseas, but then shipping and duties ended up being over the cost of the bass itself, and the shipping wasn't even that high...

$699 for a VM jazz is RRP. No one pays the recommended price here in Oz on musical equipment. The prices I quoted were found tonight on a major Australian retailers website. It pays to shop around.

Markbass is expensive here in the US too. I've given them plenty of my money.

I paid about $70 for my TI Jazz flats, and that was at a discount, so $110 is not far off.

I only have two pedals, a Markbass Compressore (see above statement) and a Polytune. The Polytune wasn't too terribly expensive, and it's worth every penny. I LOVE that tuner!
