Wow I never knew

Misc is prolly the best place for this.

Getting a little ancy about not being in a band, I answered an ad for a guy putting together a bit of a 60's to current party/fun band. I asked him to send me a set list since I usually play metal/hard rock and I wasn't sure if I'd get into it and didn't want to waste anyones time.

When I got the list I scanned it and initially sighed and thought "eeek, these aren't my style", but being a little more openminded towards music in my 30's I figured I'd at least listen to them again anyway, try working some basslines out and in the process I found myself getting blown away by a lot of the songs they want to play. Either the lines really appeal to me or they have some underlying lesson or technique I can learn from or improve etc, and I'm really digging the change in style and I've been at it for about 2 hours now.

Everyone should do it!!!!

Apart from a coupe I've not played these before, and some I haven't heard yet, but uur first jam is on Tuesday night so I've got some work ahead of me it seems

I had the same realization several years ago. My old band had broken up and I still wanted to play out, so I looked around and all I could find were country bands. I'm not a country guy. And at that time I had the traditional blues/rock guys' contempt for country bass. But I tried it and eventually got into it. And then they wanted me to sing, too. I thought that would be ridiculous, but it was fun.

Try to always be open to other styles.

Yeah true, there is always a lesson to be learned regardless of the style used to deliver it...similar to the various fighting arts out there I guess ...
