http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1nDMQkXHT7o That is the coolest thing I've seen in 3 months!! And on a MusicMan Stingray, No less!!! Can anybody say, MUSICIANSHIP???
WHO CARES??? Gene had the b**** to take off the makeup instead of hiding behind his "FACADE" So, KISS CAN be interesting without makeup and pyro and sparklers and M-82s and firecrackers, and Cobalt Bombs and......you get my point.
You people complain about them lacking "musical integrity" by your standards, but then they, excuse me, "gene and tommy and eric" actually play publicly without a wall hide behind, just their guitars, that's it, and you still act like it's nothing special. You people just can't stand to see them succeed can you??
I actually enjoyed that, thanks. I'm tired of seeing the makeup and high heels, they've become a parody of what they used to be, which is a large reason Gene gets no real respect around here. Sort of like Elvis in the "fat Elvis years". Now if they'd send Tommy backstage to make sandwich's for them and bring out Bruce Kulick you'd have a real band with or without Paul. And drop the Kiss name(ala Chickenfoot). They haven't been KISS for ages.
Gene had identity problems when they took off the makeup. He can't play or relate to the crowd unless he's the demon. Watch how bored he looks during the intro chords. The demon would be all over the place. He can still hold his own for the basic rock n roll kiss was once famous for.
Hmmm, an HS Stingray....I never would have thought of that for Gene. His vocals are sounding really good for as old as he is now. Glad you posted this.
He starts to look more comfortable after a while though. Yeah, I was rather surprised as well. He said besides his Sigs he's always really liked Stingrays, because he said he likes the fat, clear tone that they have.
The performance was pretty flat, but it was good seeing Gene do his thing, without the hype, flashpots, and makeup. Would have liked to see Paul, or at least Bruce Kulick... Anyhow, face it - Gene can play.
There has never been any doubt in my mind that GS is a great, straight-ahead rock and roll bass player.... He's never claimed to be other than that.
