Double Bass writing for transposing instruments

Please excuse the dummy question, but...

If I have a piece of music in concert C, and I want to transpose it for a Bb instrument, say Clarinet, I have to rewrite it in the key of D.

Is that correct?

That is correct.

Don't forget the octaves. For example, a clarinet is going to read up a major second, but a tenor saxophone reads up a major ninth.

That's correct, but there is another way to do it: playing in Alto Clef.
(...anyway, I'd rather rewrite the score in the key of D)
