Well, we are kindred souls!

I've been doing bench work for over thirty years, and have taught many a TV engineer how to really troubleshoot. I don't do as much bench time these days, my day job is wrapped in budget, politics and staffing issues these days. I still teach the youngins.

I'm not totally cranked at Eden, it was the shop that let me down. I was in an unusually busy period, and didn't have the ambition to take it on.

The problem was a full power bang after about ten minutes of use. It turned out to be a couple of caps (about $1 worth) in the preamp section. I isolated it to preamp through the use of a patch cord into the PA section. Once I had it narrowed down, then went through it for bad solder joints. No joy. Then it was good old looking for the bad cap, working from the tail end of the pre back. Had it pretty quickly. I was kind of mad at myself, this didn't take me but a couple of hours.

The hard lessons for me were to just fix it myself, and to have some spare gear around to tide me over when something breaks.

My WT600 has lived a hard life....

- the cooling fan quit (repaired @ Condor elex. in Seattle)
- the gain pot became horrid scratchy (repaired @ Condor)
- now my output has issues, last gig it was popping (registered 6.5 on Richter) so I used it as a preamp and fed a Crest power amp. That setup was amazing.

FWIW, Condor said my Eden was a rare treat... well-built and a pleasure to work on.

Thanks Vinny. I think I've narrrowed it down to the right channel power amp. I took the effects send and ran it to the input of the VB-2 (another sinful thing, I'm sure), and both channels sounded fine. In stereo, the Eden sounds fine through the left side, but the right side blows. I also cleaned all jacks, including the effects sends and returns, and shorted the sends to the returns, and it still has the distortion. The closest Eden service shop is about two blocks from my company's Burbank office, so I may have to find an excuse to go up and visit them.

I had a crackling/hiss problem with my WT400, and needed a schematic. An email to Eden, and a pdf of the schematic was emailed in a few hours.

For the record... CALL (on the phone) Peavey support sometime. They are the best... if not the funniest people to talk to! It is definetly a southern charm thing I guess, but their support staff has made me a Peavey supporter for life.

The dude I talked to the other day told me the TE story. I was in stitches by the end. Imagine Larry the Cable Guy telling you about a corporate merger... 'nuff said!

Those guys have more mojo in their tech staff than any '70s Fender dreamed of having.

BTW... to keep this on track... that is why Munji's Eden crapped out. I am convinced of it.
