I have an XLR cable stuck in the input of my Headway EDB 2. Depressing the release doesn't do anything. I had a friend remove the back, but you can't get to the input without more disassembly. Thought I would ask here if anyone has any experience with this. I play to call Headway next week as well.

I had the exact same thing happen a few years ago. On mine, the release tab was missing from the Headway. I eventually got the cable out by twisting the connector until it released, but then I sent the unit to Headway to have the XLR jack replaced.
In the future be sure to use only Neutrik brand connectors. It is known that knock-offs cause the problem you are having.

This was an XLR connector. The discussion around only using Neutrik is applicable to Speakon connectors.
While using something other than Neutrik for XLR connectors may have also resulted in this occurrence, there are other quality XLR connectors to consider.
Whoa, I really screwed that up! I'm aware of the difference. Misread it - sorry.
It appears to me, looking at the current EDB 2 on the Headway website, that the XLR connectors do not use release tabs on the preamp. Perhaps older models did?
Not all XLR's utilize a latch and release mechanism, some just rely on a friction fit. Sometimes, the latch release tab is on the cable connector. If that's the case, it might be possible to disassemble the cable side XLR enough to persuade it to come out. Even with a release tab, XLR's can be a tight fit. If both XLR connectors are plastic, they could be more prone to sticking. I never had issues with metal ones sticking, even if just on one side (metal to plastic) My preference for XLR's is to use the Switchcraft brand.
On my Headway, the XLR connections have release tabs. It's a model 2, so not the latest HE, but fairly new. I'm going to spend some time with it when I'm back from a trip later in December. Thanks for the suggestions.

It was an issue that the original run of the Headway EDB-2 had, mine did the same thing. Headway changed out the connector on the box to resolve the issue on later production runs. If you contact them they might be able to send you a replacement. Getting it apart was another matter, I had a local tech do that as I didn’t want to risk it myself.

Your are correct, the picture on the Headway website is a EDB-2 H.E. which does not have the "latch and release mechanism". My tech did attempt to take apart the connecter on my first run Headway EDB-2 (not a H.E.) , but if I remember correctly that didn't work either.
We also hit a dead end trying to replace the connector, because they couldn't source aftermarket part that was compatible with the box. Just my take, it was a while ago and Headway fixed the problem with a non latching connector
on the next product run of the original Headway EDB-2.
