I was thinking about getting something like this to keep in my bag. I think it could come in handy for microphones and DI's on occasion.

Whirlwind In-Line XLR Phase Reverse Adapter

I think it would be much more preferable to have one with a switch, though. Has anyone ever seen one with a polarity switch? I wouldn't mind DIYing something, but I'm not sure how to do that while keeping more or less the same format.

As an audio tech, IMHO those can be handy. If you have decent gear you may have other ways to reverse the polarity on a given channel. For example many DIs have a polarity or phase reverse switch.

This feature is also very common on mixers.

Something to keep in mind: In a live environment, flipping the polarity may be an improvement, or it may exchange one problem for another. You may make it sound better where you are standing and worse somewhere else. Or you may trade one bad resonant peak for another.
