XLR to line in conversion...what do you guys use?

To convert the XLR output to fit into the line in....just a standard 1/4 to 1/8 converter?

Also, do you use a normal 1/4" instrument cable when running the XLR line out to the line in? Thanks !

Im a little confused here. What are you trying to do? If your trying to run an XLR into a computer line in, like a mic into a computer, you'll need an impedance transformer. If your trying to run like quarter inch outs into a monitor you wouldnt need the transformer.

It sounds like what your trying to do is run a mic into a computer soundcard. You would need mic--->xlr cable--->impedance converter----->quarter inch to mini jack converter------>computer soundcard.

You're talk about signal strength. The type of connector is independent what the device. But mic's with an XLR needs a pre-amp to bring signal up to line level. Need more details what is the XLR on.

You most definitely need a pre-amp for the XLR to bring the signal up to line level. Otherwise, it's going to be really noisy and practically unusable.

Ah ok the XLR output is on an amp, so that would take care of the preamp part.

Tell me more about this impedance converter

I dont beleive youd need it if it were a line out on an amp as its already converted for line level. The impedance converter is just this little connecter Link Removed

Youll only need it with a mic. What your trying to do should work with just a xlr to quarter inch to mini plug. Onboard soundcards are noticably dirty and hard to work with, but itll work much better than trying to plug a mic in.
