Xotic RC into BB or vice versa for overdrive.

I don't know if the BB Bass Pre can take 18v or not, but increasing voltage typically gives more headroom. Basically the opposite of what you're looking for.

As for your original question, I dunno. It would likely give more grit but you may or may not like the flavor. Dirt is a very personal thing unfortunately.

Yeah about the doubler, I kind of suspected that.. Xotic has a graph on their Doubler webpage. The BB has a go for 15 v but no-go for 18.. And I agree, distortion is subjective. I emailed Xotic. I will post their opinion here.

Regardless of whether you stack the pedals or not, you're probably going to be better off with a second overdrive or distortion pedal rather than a booster. Running a boost pedal into a drive pedal generally does not have the same effect as using a booster to push a tube amp into higher gain. That's not to say that they won't sound good together, but if your goal is to get a solid boost in grit without goosing the volume too much I don't think it's going to be as effective as a different pedal combination.

Have you tried the RC? Not to discourage you, as I have a minty one for sale in the classifieds, but the RC really has no OD or grind. It is really a clean boost that adds a little sparkle on the top end and some fattening in the bottom, along with an active tone stack.

You just need to try different things to see what happens in a stack with your bass. I use a ssbs Mini into a DOD Boneshaker OR a into TAFM but the Boneshaker into TAFM isn't so great. To me the BB pre (I used one for years) is like uncolored amp overdrive and I like a lower mid accent for fuzz, less fizzy, and sustain for years.

I like the BB. Just thinking of a way to get a touch more out of it..
