XP SP3

I have it running on a few machines. One of which runs Cubase. So far so good. It's a huge install over 1000 patches.
If you've been running a macihine with SP2 for a while and kept it regularly updated, then SP3 is just another routine update, really. I had a bit of hassle installing it through the online Windows update, though. So I downloaded the standalone SP3 installer and ran it separately, no problems whatsoever.
I've also just rebuilt software installations on two other machines, one which had an SP2 installation disk and one which went all the way back to SP1. The only issue there to be noted that SP3 does not include IE7 but IE6. So if you install SP3 (using the standalone mentioned above) on an IE6 machine and connect to Windows update, then the system will try to update IE7, realise it isn't there and you'll get messages saying that the updates (the IE7 ones) have failed.
So this is what I did...
For the SP2 installation: I set up XP SP2, installed IE7, then SP3. No issues with Windows update online having done that.
For the SP1 installation: set up XP SP1, installed SP3, then installed IE7 BEFORE going to the Windows update site. Again, no problem.
I should stress that this routine is only for fresh software builds from scratch using older XP disks. If you have a machine already running SP2 and IE7 and all the usual critical updates have been installed, then running SP3 should be a breeze (again, though, I'll mention that you might find the standalone installer - a big download, 300+ MB - a more reliable way of doing this than the online updates).

I just installed SP3 a few days ago. It's like it's not even here. No noticeable differences at all. As Bill said, if you stayed on top of your SP2 updates, there's not a whole hell of a lot new with SP3. It's basically a culmination of all the SP2 updates, and a few new ones of it's own.
