Xsonics is my company. Before Schroeder, the original design of that box was from Tech SoundSystems. I endorsed that cabinet back when Fred ran the company here in the states. The CT2000 was quite cool. My design is similar but addresses I believe all the issues that cabinet had. My cabinet has dual shelf ports and I've tried to model it's overall sound to be similar to the Eden410XLT which I've used for the last 18 years and loved.

I had a Tech cab...it's what motivated me to get a Shroerder 1212R. The Schroeder was better, as the box was bigger, but still lacking just enough in the low end. If your box can get the punch of the Schroeder, with some more true lows...you'll have a winner! Your box is about the same size, but has much more port area, and being as the side speaker is "outside" the box, the volume of the enclosure is larger...could be the ticket!

I promise you this box HAS lows. I have a Genz Benz 212T NX2 I bought for reference. The Xsonics 212CF gets extremely close in lows and certainly as loud as the GB 212T. Hard to believe but true. Anyone wanting to come and demo is welcome.

I also have 3 Eden 410XLT's and that is somewhat the tonal pallette I have been shooting for with the Xsonics 212CF. Studio-monitorish was not my objective. In your face growl and punch was my goal. I believe I got there.

I have been gigging the Xsonics about 3 times a week for the last 3 months and I have yet to be disappointed with it and I'm frankly always amazed. The only thing similar to the Schroeder/Tech Sound knock off is the size and weight. Mine sounds nothing like it. I endorsed the Tech SoundSystems CT2000 and had 4 of them for gigging. I knew that box inside and out and took it apart way too many times. It lacked lows, sounded extremely middy, was very directional due to basically no engineered porting. All of these issues ARE solved!

I put up 2 pics for size reference. The Xsonics 212CF is on the right side of each picture with the Xsonics 210CF on top of it.

It is compound, not isobaric. It is dual ported so it does not act isobaric. Has 2 driver output not single as if truly isobaric

Hey, thanks. I couldn't think of the proper term there.

So, yeah, both additive. The side chamber would filter some topend off the side facing driver, yes?. Not a lot, or enough to make the whole of the sound "dark" or anything, just voiced with low mids. Depending on how the tweeter integrates, maybe not all that noticable.

Neat....should sound pretty fat.

Could you describe the difference in sound, compared to "outside" mounting?

I haven't used that 212t cab but know the eden very well. Tone wise, where does your 212cf sit with those two cabs? I've read that the 212t may be in the same sound universe as the eden but without the lowmid hump. It is really a great option to have both 4 and 8 ohm versions of your cabs.

Sorry. I hadn't mounted the second driver quite yet when I took that picture. I strongly prefer the compond loading to traditional for this application. Having a speaker firing directly into a close surface produces a boxy/middy sound that I find funky. I'm guessing that is why Schroeder doesn't really offer that design except by special order. That was my chief complaint with the Tech SoundSystems CT2000. Very nasally and boxy sounding that you just couldn't EQ out.

The GB 212T is a pretty smoking cab. Guess that's why tons of them are sold. The Xsonics 212CF is a true blend in terms of sound of the Genz Benz NX2 and an Eden 210/410XLT. Very fat and huge sounding like the GB but more agressive with punch and growl like Eden. I've spent the better part of a year in gigging trials and almost 20 prototypes later to get to where the cab is now.

I'm a 4 ohm guy, as I won't haul 2 cabinets. One 212CF WILL blow your face off. But I know many players gotta go 8 ohm for their own personal reasons. I had to get a speaker manufacturer that would do the same driver in 8 and 16 ohms.

Chris, you don't miss anything!!! I have 8 working prototypes, all with different combinations of crossover components, different speakers, different horns. I'm turning into a mad professor of bass cabinet engineering!!!!!

Sounding good isn't good enough. It has to sound great or I'm just not satisfied. The combination I have now is absolutley killer. The 210CF is by far the best sounding, loudest, smallest 210 I've ever run across, IMHO.

On your page you list a few different options so, Im assuming that if someone wanted the tweets moved to the upper right corner of each cab and the handles placed at the woofer side of the cab, so as to make carrying one in each hand less cumbersome, that is do-able?

Looks like I might be getting the opportunity to pick up a "barely used" Xsonics cab from kringle in the very near future.

Man, Im so transparent! You know, in the rest of my life, Im very resolute and focused with what Im doing. When it comes to cabs, Im always on the hunt. But, it took a long time to find the right amp, pedals and bass too. Once I found the right ones, thats what I stick with and don't look any further. I just haven't found the right combination of tone, power and weight in a cab yet. My bass was lucky. I bought a yamaha attitude standard in 1993, loved it, bought a blue limited addition model 6 years later, a red one a few years after that, and then had stambaugh build me a custom version that made all the improvements on it that I wish yamaha had. Im looking for a cab that has the attributes of my favorite ones (d410xlt, nv610) and then makes it better. When I find that, I really don't know what I'll have to chase after. I really do like the chase though.

I just listened to Ed Friedlands great review of the tc212t II and if your cab is similar but with more growl, thats awsome.

Absolutely Chris. Under "Options" I've listed several custom things I'm happy to do for those who have specific ideas as to what's best for them. In some cases it will add a few bucks.

It doesn't need a special acoustic chamber, just a good PC, a Mic and some time. And a couple of "other" cabinets plotted like Bill Fitzmaurice does to show a reference.
