XT-2 Pickup Replacement

I have searched through this forum to make sure I haven’t dragged up a common theme. The amount of info on upgrading an XT-2’s pickups is fairly sparse and not very current. Even out on the greater internet there is little information that can be found. Most of it is about converting the bass to take active pickups, which I am not looking at doing. The Rio Grande Pitbulls look like the go to me. Does anyone have any experience with these pickups at all? Or should I stick to shaping the sound through a pre-amp given the cost of a pair of Pitbulls?

The pickups are guitar sized humbuckers, so you have the options of EMGs, and other guitar pickups that have blades instead of poles (or fully covered) the GFS rail pickups are inexpensive, and have good reviews for bass, I'm using three in the bass in building now.
