I saw XTC opening for The Police in fall of 1980 at the Minneapolis Armory, a horrible venue acoustically. The only XTC song I remember from that show was Helicopter. English Settlement was for me the first really great album, with either Oranges and Lemons or Nonsuch as my favorite(s). Andy may have been the main writer but I like Colin's compositions just as much, along with his being a brilliant bass player.
I play in a band that covers Mayor of Simpleton (Andy Partridge actually wrote the bass part to that one). My wife and I raised our boy, now 33 and a musician in LA, to know and love XTC. According to him, no one else his age knows or cares about them. Sad.
XTC should've been much bigger than they were.
