Yamaha B424X

I just saw one of those pop up on the classifieds here and it looked pretty nice. From my little experience they are great basses. If you have a good amp and cab you should be very happy with the tone. Hopefully some more people will chime in on it.

What kind of music do you play?

My next bass will be a BB425X. I have a BB415 (no pickguard or control plate, and a matching headstock) and I love it.

I'm a big P fan, love the LACK of “versatility”, but when using the BB415 I do utilize that J pickup at times.

Anyways, it just fits me nice, fits my hands, easy for me to play, looks cool.

My BB415

I have played a few of the current BB series Yamaha basses in stores. The necks are surprisingly comfortable even if the bodies are a little big. They are an interesting take on the classic Fender PJ sound. The attack is rounder and the mids are very pleasant. Jimmy Bain's tone on the early Dio albums really sums it up. If I had room in my stable I would think about one.

I bought a used BB1024x last year and I absolutely love it. Super comfortable to hold and play, solid construction, and great pickups. The P and J pickup setup gives you a lot of tonal options. Here is a pic of it in action.

I don't know the difference between the 424 and 1024 other than price, but I think you wouldn't be disappointed with the 424.

Thanks all!

Like I said, everything I've read and heard indicates this would be a good fit. I play rock, country, Motown, progressive and such. I have Sterling's and a P bass so the P/J configuration would be something cool to add.

Time to start saving my pennies. At least these are aren't too expensive.
