Yamaha bass guitars

My late 90's TRB-5ii is my main bass. There's nothing I would change on it. I bought it used, off of Craigslist, to replace a Fender Jazz V Deluxe that I just couldn't get in a happy place. The TRB has the perfect fit for me- ash body, wide/thin neck, 35" scale, great pre-amp. Best of all, when I needed to replace the battery box lid, I called Yamaha and had one shipped to me for about $30 (it was the whole battery box, with wiring harness). That's pretty good customer service, keeping parts for an almost 20-year-old bass.

Hey Yamaha gang. I'd thought I'd throw this clip of my TRBX305 in here as well. I kinda feel like the mad scientist sneaking away to his lab in the middle of the night. LOL. Wife and kids are in bed and here I am actually getting to sit down to record some sample tracks. Anyhow, here's another number I found over on Wikiloops and thought I'd throw in a little TRBX to the mix.

My Yamaha RBX170EW is my #1 bass. The only thing I've changed was the pickups, which I switched out for Dimarzios. I mostly use the P pickup, and it sounds better than any fender P bass I've ever played (and I've played a lot). . .

Which Dimarios did you put in that RBX170? I'm thinking of changing out the pickups in mine too.

Do it! Of course I don't know what your other basses are Last month I picked up a used BB425X here on TB. Was considering buying a Stingray 5 (had one many years ago). I'm liking the Yamaha waaaay better than I ever liked my old Stingray. Neck feels like home, and completely cured my GAS...

I've got a TRBX504. I bought it as every time Yamaha comes up on a forum they are raved about. I've got to be honest, I've never really taken to it. There's nothing wrong with it, it's well made and the electronics are good but all in all I must say it underwhelms me. I've never really gone much on the tone, I'm forever tweaking my amp trying to improve the sound. I find it quite bland.

I find my Ibanez SR300 much more enjoyable to play...and it's lighter.
