Yamaha bass guitars

My Yamaha RBX170EW is my #1 bass. The only thing I've changed was the pickups, which I switched out for Dimarzios. I mostly use the P pickup, and it sounds better than any fender P bass I've ever played (and I've played a lot).

That being said, I'm not a huge fan of yamaha 5 or 6 strings. When it comes to anything but 4 strings, I almost always go Ibanez.

Many years ago after I realized that my first bass (a Hondo II Fender knock-off) just wouldn't cut it anymore, I traded it in at a pawn shop for a Yamaha bass.

That was way back in the late eighties so don't ask me which model it was, but I remember it being this pretty burgundy color and it played so much better than the Hondo.

I loaned it out to a bass playing friend of mine and wound up giving it to him when I moved. At that time in my life I had other much more pressing things on my plate than becoming the next great rock star, and needing a bass wasn't one of them.

Fast-forward to present day - last summer I bought my step daughter a Yamaha RBX170. She started out on guitar & picked it up really quickly, and now she's taken an interest in playing the bass.

I have to say for a $180.00 bass this little Yamaha is amazing, it has a really beefy neck and thumps like an old school Funk bass.

I'm not suggesting you buy that bass per-say, as much as I'm just being a spokesperson for Yamaha at the moment.

Yamaha does just about everything well, no matter what consumer products they make.

I personally don't own a Yamaha bass today but I would strongly recommend Yamaha...........good luck...

I have a TRBX305 and had two TRBX505's. Both TRBX505's had strange issues with the preamps that caused me to have to return both of them. I think I'm the only one that has had anything like that happen though! (At least on TB) The 305 sounds good enough for me to use and not miss the 505 all that much. I had to answer an emergency page for work in the middle of the night last week and while I was waiting on some info threw down a bass part to a track I found online. (Using the 505) Other than gigs and rehearsals that's about the only time I can play at home. Thought it came out ok for me being half awake. I basically left the mixer eq alone and rolled back to the back p/u some and boosted mids and lows just past half.

Sounds awesome! Jeff. I just hope i can grab a one while they are still here (in white ) it has that yamaha tone, i cant explain it.

Now to figure a way to keep some cash lol

I like the 305 though the necks on these just feel funny to me. I was hoping the 500's had a different finish but guess not. I am considering buying a black 304 tomorrow because I love their punch. Oh well I am adjusting to their necks. Not that they are bad...just differebt

Yeah. I would love to pick up a Yamaha Nathan East model, the BBBNE2. Actually one in black, one in white. It is one beautiful, elegant instrument.

Which one would you recommend rbx5a2 or bb425? Rbx has that air thing but i didnt feel like "oh I want this", but bb425 seems nice. I havent tried both of them yet.

I use D'Addario Chromes.......I prefer them to the stock (or any round for that matter).......

A lot of yamaha necks are wider spacing than ibanez. Less so recently it seems. I have been using a very chunky rbx 5 string for years. Top quality and value.

Very punchy tone and comfy to play. I find it a little heavy but a good strap helps. Keep in mind I have arthritis in my back and stiff neck from an accident. So it does work for me but bearly

I bought my BB400 back in 1983 and it has been a great workhorse. It sounds great and is one of the few basses I own that is still completely stock, I never felt there was a single thing about it that needed to be changed.

my main bass is a BB1025x
no complaints whatsoever.
I run it thru a sadowsky pre for an absolutely authoritive sound.
