are the new yamaha BB x series basses just the BB series basses with a pickguard slapped on? Is it possible to remove the pickguard and control plate without having to do further work?
Well, the controls are attached to the control plate, and the body is front routed for that, so you can't really remove that. You could remove the pickguard, but you'd probably find an ugly routing from the control plate to the P pickup. I'd just send an e-mail to one of the authorised dealers and ask for the non-X versions.
