If you're working from a published wiring diagram, sometimes it's not totally clear if they're showing the pots from the top view or back view. If the visual is confusing, there's a chance that you could solder a hot lead to the wrong outer lug of a pot.
When I pre-wire pots before putting them in the bass, I try to make sure I keep the visual orientation consistent with how the pots appear when they're installed in the bass. I do the soldering with the shafts facing down so I can see the backs of the pot cases.
