Yamaha Club Series Drivers

Hey all
I scoured the internet including Harmony Central and other sites, and I am looking for advice from my trusted bass brethren and sistren on a live sound topic...

I have a small PA system with Yamaha Club series speakers specifically the SM12-V floor monitors. I have 4 of them, 2 for mains (with a sub), and 2 for monitors. One of the monitors needed a new tweeter, and I ordered what was supposed to be the direct replacement: an Eminence MD:2001-16DIA. The driver fit perfectly and works fine, except now that speaker is WAY brighter than the rest, like 10 dB or more in the HF range-- Not subtle! It doesn't sound terrible actually, but it is definitely not like the others. Did I order the wrong part? I'd be happy to keep one this as a spare and order two more of the right model. Or, I could just order another one of these and back off the treble EQ on that pair.

Unsure what to do...
Is a PSD:2002-16DIA the better fit? I have seen both listed as replacements.

Where did you get the info on the part?

I am surprised you could not just buy a new factory diaphragm for the original driver.


Full Compass sells factory parts for many brands. Both of the Yamaha parts I will link below are out of stock. They may be discontinued.

Regarding the Eminence driver: This link implies the Eminence diaphragm is a drop in replacement for the Yamaha Club series: Eminence MD:2001-16DIA 1" Replacement Diaphragm for Yamaha Club Series

Are you sure you got the 16 ohm version. There is also an 8 ohm version.

It's possible the other old diaphragms have been significantly damaged and are weak.

It's also possible the speaker you installed the new driver in has incurred some sort of damage. For example maybe there are burned shunt resistors in the crossover that help pad down the tweeter.

Where did you get the info on the part?

Parts Express website said was the direct replacement (despite describing it as a 1" voice coil, when it is clearly 2"). It fits perfectly. But I see now they also have this one which some other sources say is the replacement: Eminence PSD:2002-16DIA Diaphragm For PSD:2002 16 Ohm

Yep that's the one I ordered! (same seller)

Thanks! This is easy to check, as I have 4 speaker cabs and it takes like 4 minutes to swap the HF drivers. Will do this tomorrow or after my upcoming gig though.

These are quite expensive compared to the Eminence (3x the price just for the diagram, 5x if you include the magnet assembly). If they are better quality that is one thing, but they look nearly identical and I thought Eminence was the OEM.

The one I received says 16 Ohms on the box

If you have an ohmmeter check the DC resistance. I believe it should measure about 12 ohms. If it measures about 6 ohms, it's an 8 ohm diaphragm

They are Eminence drivers / diaphragms, check the resistance of all your drivers.
Maybe the crossover is damaged as well.

The 1 inch reference is the throat diameter of the driver.
