Yamaha SA-70 help?

Is this the rarest bass ever? I cannot find one of these to save my life, does anyone have any information on these??????????

Have you seen the Dave Grohl-directed Sound City documentary? There's a sequence with Trent Reznor and Josh Homme working on something with a 'featured' bass line. They're using an SA-70!

Thanks! Yep, Sound City & the QOTSA DVD Over the years where Homme plays it live on stage is what turned me on to the SA70 sound. LOVE IT

first, thank you! this topic and the scotch's text really helped me pick this beauty.

it has not yet arrived but I got some questions. I could not identify the exact year of manufacture by serial number. Another thing is that the bass seems surprisingly new to an instrument of 60s or 70s. I do not think anyone would choose a bass with little demand to counterfeit. But thought worth asking for you who already have the SA70, it looks authentic? Under similar conditions is compared to yours?

Looks legit to me! Nearly identical to mine & similar cosmetic condition. The case is not original , but the bass looks right to me.

Beautiful vintage Yamaha! I have the same guitar, too. Love it!
Looking at the pics, this appears to be 100% original. The case, while later than mine and of a different shape, may be original, too, but I don't know this. Should have a Yamaha ID plate on it. Based upon my reading of the serial number, this is an early 1974 example, probably one of the last.
Check out this 1970 catalogue excerpt.

Hey guys! You really helped me here, I am grateful.

I'll still have to wait a couple of days to arrival it (it comes from Japan and I'm in Brazil), so if I do not die from anxiety until then, I'll post some photos and a conclusion on the serial number, which is not very readable in photos.

You will really enjoy this bass. While not cheap, nevertheless, given the vintage, rarity, and, most importantly, the great engineering and build quality, I think the value is there.

I confess that what got me over was the sound of this track:



much of of the songs recorded lullabies paralyze the queens of the stone age were made with this bass, it was very present in the 2005 tour. Concerts In Alain Johannes uses a modified SA-70.



Despite good examples rockers, seems a pretty versatile bass.
