Many of you are much more technically savvy than I, so you may already know this info.
During a gig on Sunday I had a battery problem on my 300. Red light started flashing, so I decided to change the batteries on a break. The first set I put in would not power up; I put the old set in, and they would not power up. So, I got a third set, and they worked and I was able to finish the gig.
The experience got me wondering if it is easy to play without batteries, as the manual says. So I just ran an experiment here at home. I removed the batteries and connected the bass directly to my "house" amp, an AI Series 4 Coda. Turned the switch on the bass to off, and it played fine, using just the signal from the piezo pickup. Lots of volume, etc.
Then I connect to the PJB Double Four that I take out, and got nothing. So I connected the bass through a Headway EDB-2, cranked up the input gain on the amp and on the pre-amp, and it worked fine.
I also tried an F-Deck II. It worked, but only with the input gain on the PJB maxed, the volume on the pre-amp maxed, and the master volume on the amp at 3/4's. Not much room left.
I'll add the Headway to the PJB carry bag. Not a great solution, but it will work in an emergency.
