Double Bass Yamaha SLB300 supplied mute

Does anyone use the small mute that is supplied by Yamaha? It’s supposed to minimize extraneous sounds and vibrations from getting picked up by the piezo between the bridge and tailpiece. It’s not like the Ninomute that goes above the strings and actually mutes the strings. Curious what people’s experiences are with this.

This one is placed on the strings between the bridge and the tailpiece. The way it was described in the manual, it’s supposed to help minimize extra sound and vibration that could be picked up by the piezo pu. It’s for a different purpose than the Ninomute.

It should damp the vibrations from the afterlengths. On my Stagg I put a piece of foam between the body and the afterlengths.
Part of the vibration of the main part of the string transfers to the afterlengths due to movement of the bridge but also by string stiffness.
A free hanging tailpiece transfers the energy from the afterlength to the neighbor strings and therefor damps (transfers) the afterlength vibration energy. In case of a fixed afterlength endpoint a very large amount of string movement is reflected at that endpoint and therefor the afterlength might resonate much longer which can be disturbing/irritating.
