Just purchased a TRB-6P fretless with roundwound strings and would like to hear if anyone uses flatwound medium/light on these. There does not seem to be much of a choice on extra long flats. Tom.

Most "long scale" strings are 37"-37.25" in winding length (ball end to silk/taper), which can fit a 35" scale bass as long as they're top-loaded instead of thru-body.

Can you measure the distance on your bass from where the ball end is seated on the bridge to the tuner side of the nut? That would be the minimum "winding length" you would need. Your bass may not need "extra long" as such.

Nut to bridge is 35". The longest string distance on this bass from ball end side of the bridge to the tunning post is 41" and that is for the A string. I would like to add that I would prefer tapered strings on the low B and E over full wounds to make the strings sit better on the bridge saddle. I very much apprerciate your reponses. Thank You. Nut to bridge (as in saddle) = scale length = 35"

What's the actual measurement from where the ball end is seated to where the string clears the nut, including the part that's behind the saddle? Just trying to determine what winding length your bass needs.

So, what you're looking for is a 6-string set of flats with preferably tapered B and E... Even if your bass can take the standard "long scale" (37.25" ball end to silk), your choices will be severely limited anyway.

Michael, once again I appreciate your help. I will give these strings a try. I also viewed on You Tube 'The ultimate bass string shootout' on Scotts Bass Lessons, maybe a Black Nylon set if they do them for a six string?? Tom.

La Bella Black Nylons do come in 6-string sets but only in the standard "long scale" with 36.75" winding length for B and E.
