It's a great bass ... I had it set-up by my guitar tech and had it strung with Thomastik-Infield JF365 Flatwounds ... the B string is a really tight sounding, on this bass

those are SO rare to find in stores. Did you order it or do some stores really have them around? I have even thought they're being discontinued or something.
I personally bought a JP recently, second hand, in this Finnish winter climate I've had minor problems with the ebony fretboard, the frets started to stick out a bit. But it got better with filing (by a pro).

Actually it's used, got it from a French guy
It has a little bump on a fret (23rd if not mistaken) that stops the G string when playing it in those high positions, but I'll take it as an excuse to bring it to a luthier and have a complete fret filing and setup...it will FLY after that

Wanted to share my xmas present...from myself!
It's a beast, stunning in the flesh and has a really, really nice voice!

I've owned only Japanese TRB's so I am a bit biased but I've played many Korean TRB's and have owned a Korean RBXJM2.
To me the Japanese TRB was better in terms of build quality compared to the Korean ones but I think the Korean ones are quite good too. Definitely not bad basses at all. But they are overpriced (around 1000 euros).
The Korean RBXJM2 was well built but had crappy parts and electronics was overpriced too.
A used reasonably priced Japanese TRB is a bass worth buying!

I am REALLY impressed with the construction of this instrument!
I'm not sure how old it is, but it has never been played live, only studio use, so it's in pristine condition.
I put a set of Circle K's on it, and it really has that grand piano sound now.

That is the twin to mine. The first 3 digits/letters of your serial number will determine the date as follows:
1st number= year made, repeats every 10 years
1st letter=Yamaha internal code number
2nd letter= Month manufactured. January=H and up from there.
My S/N is 8FP**** meaning it was made in 1998, P=September
The TRB5II was only made from 1998 - 2003 although I may be off by a year on the end of production.
Although it's no longer my main player (switched to a Dingwall Combustion) I am not going to get rid of it. I'm looking to have it professionally converted into a fretless.

Again, it's a great sounding and playing bass. The only downside is the weight. A 4 hour gig would be a workout with this one.

This may be the wrong thread to post this in, but has anyone put a kill switch in a trb6p? I definitely want to add one in mine!
I have left the group again. Just sold my TRB6 Series I to a semi-pro here who immediately fell in love with the bass. My only gripe with this bass is the weight... other than that, it's an extraordinary well built instrument, and for the price point is virtually unbeatable. I had to swap the electronics on mine, and replaced them with a set of Bartolini G6 pickups and a Glockenklang preamp that really suited this instrument very well.
But the neck, fretwork, overall sound quality, and aesthetics makes this a killer bass for anyone with a proper spine to carry it.
If the weight had been a couple pounds lower, I would never have sold this bass. I do have a touch of seller's remorse at the moment, but thinking of my aching shoulder (and my new Clement 6-string) gives me some relief. Good luck, all you TRB-ers. Who knows, maybe I'll rejoin for a third time....

Who knows, maybe I'll rejoin for a third time.... I haven't done this, but I think it would be difficult.. unless you just put one on the wire that goes from the preamp module to the output jack. The preamp unit is not very easy to modify, as it's on a print card. Easy to plug in and out, but hard to modify.
But you could probably just add one between the output jack and the preamp.
