Yamaha TRB in metal?

I've been using an older TRB 6P for metal and it works quite nicely Sits in the mix very well and delivers good clarity for the shreddier parts.

I have one as my fretted bass (usually use fretless). I think it's great! But do note that the inherent sound with the preamp set flat may be a little too thin and bright, so try fiddling with the knobs if it doesn't feel right. Neck tends towards wide and flat too.

I actually played a hoefner for Doom Metal. Was really nice cause of the boomy sound.
And i played a headless in a Prog Metal Band
Play what you like and what you are comfortable at, and people will see it.

I like flat and wide necks. I heard some not very good things about this preamp, but it can't be bad.

If I had the money, I would buy a Spector Euro, but here in Poland it costs about 2000$, and Yammi 1000$, so yeah...

I have played tech-death for the better part of a decade with my BBN5II, and Espen Hammer from Norwegian folk metal band Lumsk, amongst others, uses a TRB 1006. It has a very clear tone that works great for metal, the only thing putting me off is the price

Peavey? It's like a lottery, another cheap made bass. It was a great company, but today their basses are not that good. I want a guitar, that has constant quality control, and the Yamaha is great with it. I will get a TRB for sure.

I have a TRB1004 and it is great. Use it to play thrash metal, classic rock, etc. and I love it. I wish I had bought the 5 string version.

As someone else said, the string spacing is rather wide, so try it to see if it is comfortable for you.

I don't think that a pretty wide string spacing would be a problem. Does the bass cut through nicely? Do you fiddle with preamp knobs?

Sure. It'll be great. Lots of metal player use a variation of a Jazz bass. That Yamaha will be very versatile in tonality. It should pull off whatever you throw at it.

Almost any bass can do Heavy Metal, with few exceptions, like perhaps a Hofner.

KBD, you add Dragon Head tuners, a Devil's Tail cord, and of course some glitter, and I bet 90% of the audience would never know that it wasn't meant for metal...

... don't forget the glitter, though... gotta have the glitter.

Just remember though, a FENDER JAZZ bass is ONLY FOR JAZZ!!! Never use it for anything else, or bad things will happen!!!!
