Double Bass Yamahiko Double Bass Pickup

That sounds about right.. as I'm sure it's better than some "others" it's still piezo

My girlfriend has the piano yamahiko, and while it works, a microphone is better sitting inside the piano..

But I guess the Yamahiko is the best piezo option...

Flatback, if you need my girlfriend to translate in Japanese, (maybe for that Japanese discount..$ we all want) just let me know ;) :thumbsup:

I'd also like to add that when I first started using the yamahiko I was quite underwhelmed, while at home experimenting with it before my first gig (>Acoustic Image Clarus S4>Euphonic Audio Wizzy 10) there was a noticeable difference in sound depending on the position of the phase switch, for some arbitrary reason I determined the phase reversed position was the best.

Additionally I got really used to the HPF being on and set to 12 o'clock as a starting point for my old realist or my newer lifeline and then turning up from there for feedback.

Long story short, after a few gigs of pretty unsatisfactory tone, I put the phase switch back to in phase and bypassed the HPF and voila! SIGNIFICANTLY better!

I was always saying that earlier about how the speaker really helps with good electronics.. I found that out after trying to buy multiple amps and seeing that after changing the speaker, is when I started to hear clear bass and not muffled muddy woof sounds

I still can't achieve what I got from a QSC 12 with any other regular commercial bass amps so far.. using random pickups..

At-least now have a fearless 12 cab, which showed me how voiced my Epifani speakers are..

I do need to try these MAS speakers at some point, I'd love especially to compare them to barefaced cabs.. and see how sound changes using the same bass and setup..

This morning I got a birthday present from my brother (which is a successful producer here in Indonesia). To my surprise, when I opened the box it was a set of Yamahiko double bass pickup (a set with two pick-ups, but only one output jack). I'll go to a local luthier to install the pickup tomorrow morning. So do you guys have some tips for successful installation of the pickup?

Kiyohiko has made a stereo jack for me to use the two sensors of the Yamahiko separately...should arrive tomorrow....
On Sunday I was using the Yamahiko and Ischell blended. I had the cab on the floor and it was a mess of feedback. I took the Ischell out (should have had a chair or stand for the cab) and just ran the Yamahiko and it was excellent. (two pickups tied together) somehow when you are on the gig the two pickups tied together sounds pretty damn good. That is a regular loud quartet gig. Anyway all night I was wishing I had the two Y sensors going to different channels.
Below is the stereo jack. Check it out: with the stereo jack you can use one sensor (and a mic using only tip), both sensors (one into each channel of the Felix) both sensors tied and a mic or (with my present set up....which I prolly wont ever do....) two sensors going into the Felix and a mic going into the AI focus.
I am going to just work with the two sensors into the Felix for a while using this new system and see where Im at. Would love to have variable phase but I think with reverse and eq it'll get pretty close to it.
I'm going to call CS at Grace today to make sure that I can get the 20 Megohm imp on BOTH channels when I use the TRS cable into ch1.

Thanks, I already installed the pickup on my bass. Love the sound of it. I agree with mr Arnopol and Flatback, the sound of a single pickup is way better than the two pickup linked. I don't have the second output cable so for now I'm going to use one pickup only. Maybe I'll contact mr Yamaya later for the second output cable

Of all the things I've upgraded. The MAS 4x5 I bought used made the most difference. It fills the stage and room with the sound of my bass.

All right so I got the new jack from Kiyohiko, and all I can say is man this set up is a great great sound with so much potential and flexibility. One stereo jack with one TRS cord into the Felix which automatically feeds one channel to each eq. Flat sounds great (with one channel phase flipped).
But the real advantage to this set up is it is dead quiet, has no bleed, no feedback (it will raise standing wave feedback on my bass when you get up at blazing loud...easily notched) and thru a 46 MAS cab, really crazy good amplified sound. Thump clarity, very very little piezo annoyance...the phase really tames that amazingly well, dynamics, quickness, the muted percussive notes sound awesome.
The thing about having two pickups like this going thru this crazy felix box, is that the eq has SO much to work and it is such a good eq, a lot of fine sounds can be dialed in easily.

The MAS cabs have 4, 3 inch tweeters pointing straight out (I can turn mine on and off..huge difference) and the Y pickup because of its placement back down the legs of the bridge is darker then a lot of other pickups (and mics) where the high end ultra reality (the EAP had a ton of the excessive high end I mean) can get pretty unforgiving. THe two pickups are really well balanced and when I think I am missing that airy high end from the Remic, I listen from about ten feet away (I have a good looping pedal I use a lot for practice) and I don't miss anything, it just sounds damn good.
Now I really dig the Ischell too and these two blended sound great, but this my main bass I just have the Y on and This simple one cord setup is dope.
I am going to recommend to Kiyohiko that he offer it as an option and although I cant possibly know how it's going to sound on your bass thru another system, this is as close to perfection in amplified bass as I have ever heard.

I would like to add that the yamahiko is a very hot pickup. I have the single sensor model and with all my other pickups, my acoustic image focus input gain had to be set to 9 o'clock minimum. Most would have it closer to noon.

With the yamahiko most of the time it's set a little below 9 o'clock. And I say little adjustments to the gain make a big difference.
