Update on this:
I forgot about this thread, but as gigs have come back I've been thinking about fixing this issue of too much output. I emailed Mr. Yamaya and he suggested that he could make a reduced output jack, which he did -- and had it to my door in less than a week from Japan! I believe he just added a capacitor into the jack signal path, as there now appears to be a tic-tac in the jack
Perfect solution for me, no dependence on a single cable, and the price was ok ($60 shipped). Lesson learned = It never hurts to ask
