Yet another amazing Jeff Schmidt Solo

i find this style of solo bass much more interesting than wooten for example. to each their own.......
He had an infraction for something, but he isn't banned or anything. His latest activity was yesterday.
As for the solo: very, very impressive.
At about 2:45 in the video it kinda sounds like he's mimicking a plane flying through the air. Anyone know if that's an effect for a technique? Because it sounds awesome!
Yeah, it's amazing. I was thinking about getting a bass for piccolo strings. I wonder if I can compose something that good?

Between Jeff, Michael Manring and this guy, I've been inspired to just try out weird altered tunings on my beat up ol' Steinberger that previously served as an "extra" beater bass.
For the past two weeks It's been the only bass I have to play with my Warmoth in the shop. It's only got the top 3 strings from a tenor set (I broke the A
) It's been quite a trip, and I've come up with some lovely sounding stuff.
Reminds me of something I read in an article Manring wrote once.. (I paraphrase from memory here) "Try playing familiar things in unfamiliar tunings. (Manring suggests something crazy like flatted 2nds) Even Hanson lines come out sounding like Sun Ra!"

Haha, before even clicking the link I knew it was Zander. His playing, as with jeff's almost ticks me off it's so melodically deep and.. well good. Technical ability aside I'd love to see them discuss their song writing process for they came up with some of their pieces.Gotta love the Schmidt!

And on a technique side, tuning difference aside I still can't even get close to replicating some of the things Jeff Schmidt's does. Like around 0:33. As obvious as it appears I can't get it to sound anything close to that( at one octave lower).
Why is that a problem?
I don't think that sounds one bit like a harp, I think it sounds like an instrument all its own. Should we not aspire to have our own sound in some way?

Love the solo. Love the interesting, fresh approach to the tuning and/or the use of a capo. Always nice to hear a player who does not obsess over the "rules" governing the musical application of his instrument.
I've never heard a harp slapped, but I have seen threads where people who had nothing positive to say about the topic decided to come right on in and post anyway.
