Yet another MM Stingray thread!

I didn't even mention the 2 pickup versions, my all-time fave MusicMan bass is the Sterling HH.

I own one of those, and I love the thing to death. American quality and beastly tone whenever I want it.

Maybe the older 'Rays were one trick ponies...but people love them for that one trick. It's like a P bass. Whatever. It does that trick pretty well.

Also, you can watch this video on YouTube for some help too. It's Ed Friedland's review of the bass and it's honestly part of the reason I bought this bass (I understood the differences better than when the dipstick at GC was telling me about them). He talks about the differences in the tone between the Stingray and the Sterling as well as does a quick run through of a few of the tones you can get from the Sterling.

Sorry, I don't know how to make the link look all pretty like. :p

I use a sterling as my daily work horse but I allways keep a stingray around because I love the tone and feel. A couple of years ago I swapped my 98 ray for a ric 4001, money wise wasn't a bad deal but I could never get used to the ric tone or feel. I wound up selling it and getting another stingray.

The 'Ray was my dream bass as well. Got a couple of 'em now. :)
First off, no other bass under $3K feels so alive in my hands.
It's sound has always been downright inspiring to me.
As a tried and true industry standard, you cannot go wrong.
I've found it to be the best bang for buck workhorse while still being special in a boutique sort of way.

My biggest like about the EBMM basses are their ability to cut through a mix. I love the Fender products, but I always wrestle with them when it comes to getting heard in the mix, without appearing too boomy or thin.

I would have enough money to afford my dream bass, a Musicman Stingray!

You can find used ones in great shape pretty regularly here on Talkbass and on Craigs List and eBay. I bought two in the last year, I had never owned one before.

I paid $700 for this 1999 StingRay on CL (not great shape, but sounds great):

I paid $850 for this 1994 StingRay here on TB:

I may get rid of the honeyburst one, I have eight basses now and that's probably too many for me.
