I would go for my Boss Dual Cube Bass LX, baterry powerable, all the fx I need, a drum loop player, and it is small and light in case the island in question happen to be the North Sentinel Island, I can run easilly under the rain of arrows.

Having an amp on a desert island? How is power generated on this deserted island? I would think a carbon fiber acoustic would be the only valid choice, wood would not survive long in the salt air.

Of everything I've tried, the Genz Benz Shuttle 9.0 ended my search for both bass amp and an always on light overdrive pedal. The combination of tone, flexibility, power, size and weight is just right. Gets a nice tube grind that I really dig, and has a punch and heft that works really well for what I am trying to do. Di output sounds great.

Back in 2000 I decided to put together my "dream" rig. I spent hours on my neighbors computer (I didn't own one yet) researching preamps, amps, speakers, etc, and over the course of the next 2 years I slowly began to pull the pieces together, finally ending up with this head setup:

Including the six rack case, it weight around 50 pounds.....arrrgh..... but man it rocked. I added 2 x Acme Low B2 speakers at 50 pounds each, bringing the total to 150 pounds of glorious bass goodness that gave me goose bumps every time I fired it up. This is the only photo I've got of the full system which I used for six years while gigging local bars (the Roland was a backup amp that I never needed).

Unfortunately I had to sell all my equipment at one point to fund an operation. Oh well, I was a GREAT rig while it lasted, and my new setup only weights about 36 pounds total (Barefaced BB2 and Quilter Bass 800). And while not quite the dragon slayer my old system was, it serves my present needs quite well.

Interesting story + testimony of 2 generations of quality gear. If you had someone to carry your rig for you, would you prefer to play on you old rig or the new one?

Side note: one of my motivations for spending (waisting?) so much time on TB is to practice my English (I'm French), and get to know and understand better the American culture. This is the second time I read the story of a musician being obliged to sell his gear in order to pay for medical care, and it really strikes me. It must be really scary to know that if something happens to you, you may be obliged to sell your house, car or music gear to pay for the doctors.

On a desert island I wouldn't need to move and/or carry it, right ?
Then I would be more than happy and satisfied with an Aguilar DB751 tube amp with a Darkglass 212 cab.

OK I'm posting this because I want to shout from the hilltops about my all-time favorite amp…The mighty Carvin B1500. I don't care that it's big I don't care that it's bulky. I don't care that it weighs 35 pounds. I don't care that it's discontinued. It's been nothing but reliable and there for me gig after gig year after year. It is a monster piece of audio gear. Plus, it sounds just so damn good with very little knob tweaking. Behold…

Is there an electric grid there? If so, my Eden Rack. If not, one of those little ones that runs on batteries.

Genz Benz 6.0 into a Genz Benz Live Series 15" cabinet. It sounds amazing every time!

Ampeg B-15N. I can get everything I want out of that amp.

Question: does that imply I have a bass and cable, and that the island is wired for electricity too? Be a pretty cruel thing if any of those were missing from the equation.

My favorite amp based on tone alone is an Eden WT550. It had the tone in my head.
