Your Dream Band

At my age my dream band is competent players that all realize it's a team. None of what we do could be accomplished without the others so no one is more important. Low drama and fun.

I don't have dreams like fame and fortune, I just want to be happy playing and have it be part of my life.

Oh wait, with Eric and Carmen these goals are already achieved so I'm good.

I started a new band last year with a singer/drummer and it isn't turning out exactly as I wanted it to. I wanted to go in a dream pop, synth based, indie sort of direction; but we ended up with two guitars and no keys (we fired the keyboard player after a few months and called a guitarrist from a previous band because we couldn't find another one) and the general vibe is more soft alternative rock than what I would have wished for. I really enjoy it anyway.

The band I'm in is pretty close to my dream, except I'm not the bandleader, and our bandleader has resisted adding synths. (stripped down goth rock with nu-metal tendencies including me being tuned down to B standard).

In this project that I would lead, I would go full Geddy Lee on instrumentation. The Rickenbacker 4001, Moog Taurus pedals, and taking lead vocals, and bring the drummer from my band but have him use my Simmons SDSV kit. My girlfriend would be on keys / violin / occasional backing vocals. I'd need to find a guitarist.

Aiming for Motley Crue meets KMFDM, but with the synths and the vocal arrangements of the Human League, and then I want us to be right at home in a goth club with some danceable tracks.

I'm in my dream band. A general business trio and all three of us can improvise off each other. You never know where or when we're gonna turn Willie nelson into salsa, beonce into a grateful dead space jam, or wagon wheel into jazz.

I'm happy enough as weekend warrior, so context is routine local gigs paying at least $100/each. I don't gig for the money, but without the money I wouldn't gig... not as often, anyway

1. Few or zero rehearsals...
2. ...because all band members come to the gig fully prepared (notes/charts are OK)
3. ...and are experienced enough to both give and listen for cues as needed to navigate endings, etc
4. Confidence, not egotism. Teamwork/compromise, not drama/micromanagement
5. General positivity, no whining if things don't go right
6. Setlist that I really enjoy (lowest priority when all else is good!)

General summary: hobbyists with a professional 'tudes. I occasionally work with projects that meet most of these criteria, and it's highly satisfying.
