Double Bass Your dream bass.... (DB forum thread)

I'd have Ahhhnuld build me something fancy and kinda of ****ed up, sort of like an Ergo, but not quite so small. I'd really like to have a sound hole up by the player side of the heel. The bass would also be shaped so as to allow my right knee to fit in the bass side bout without chewing my shin up like my LaScala does (I only wear dark pants to gigs now, in case the violin corners open up a cut on my shin).

And as long as I'm dreaming, I could have the scroll carved with Juliette Binoche's face on it...

Right on sweet...I love hearing about your wardrobe.
In terms of dark pants, i'm with you 100%. I usually wear them with my signature bone pumps ( again, medium heel ) and of course, as usual, no hose.
I do find that a cut, here and there, adds a certain edge to my playing.

Honey, no offense, but at your age I think you should go with some hose. And I don't mean the kind that hang out on street corners.

Being lucky enough to own one of the dream basses mentioned here (http://www.thetalkbasses.com/) I don't want for much, but as long as we are fantasizing I wouldn't mind owning the Gemunder bass on this page.

I've played it and it has unbelievably sweet arco voice.:eek:

Ofcourse an authentic 17th or 18th century Italian like an Amati ot Testore wouldn't suck either.;)

Dream bass...

I'm too new at the real bass to have a worthy opinion yet. I'm quite happy with my beginner Engelhardt EM-1 and figure to be for a long while.

Being an extended range toybass guy, I guess my 'Dream' would be a 5 string bass with great and even tone across it's whole range... with a solid low B (I imagine a solid B can also equal a lot of boominess elsewhere in it's range).

OK,
After many years of looking for the right 5-string, I'm having it built.

Here's a hint of what it will look like, with the wood slightly dampened to show the flame. More info coming soon.

I am well aware of the awesomeness of your bass (and your playing) Paul :bassist:

I'm just assuming an improperly built URB with a low B stuck on it that sounds big could lend it's self to boominess elsewhere. NOT that it's the rule.

Actually, your bass is pretty much my dream bass :D
