The Surfers Journal.
It's a quarterly magazine about different surf locations, the people and culture around these locations, and different sub cultures within the surfing world. It's much more intellectual than than Surfer and Surfing which is just a rag that follows the pros and the ASP world tour circuit.
Great writing and quality photography.
The New Yorker
It's a weekly magazine and it has some of the best writers in the nation contributing. It's thick, very little photography, with a big focus on writing. Even with the immediacy of the Internet, it's always current and topical. Many think it's a liberal slant, politically, but they do excellent reporting on people on the right as well. I remember an excellent article centered around an interview with Ted Nugent. It's not just politics but arts, culture, environment, and science as well. Great mag. It takes some getting used to because there's so much reading, but if you're a reader like myself you grow to love it.
