Your favorite P/J?

I've been looking around at some P/J pickup configured basses and wondered what the Talkbass community thinks are good buys. Not necessarily stuck on Fender, open to all sorts of makes/models.

I've noticed on some low-end Ibanez P/J's there is a pretty big volume difference between the pickups. Do the higher-end basses still have that problem?

generally the J pickup is a little quieter than the P pickup, maybe just the contrast between humbucking and single-coil and the amount of wire they can get on the pickup. I think this is especially the case on the G&L/Tribute SB-2.

My favorite is my Mike Lull PJ5.

I've got a passive Fender MIM P-Bass Special. P/J p'ups, J neck
Olympic white, Black moto pearl pick guard.
It's all the P I need.

I think if I were going to buy a P/J type bass, it would probably be a Pedulla MVP.

Before you spend a lot, take a look at the Squier VM Jaguar

I was very pleasantly surprised with mine.

Im a fan of most all P/J basses...Fender, Squier Jag, Yamaha BB's..but I have to agree, the Spector NS is my favorite...always has been...always will be.

I had a(purportedly)77 Ibanez P-copy that had been defretted & had had a J PU added just about as close to the bridge as possible- sounded great(MY opinion, of course)- if I ever do that to a bass, I'll do the same.

Pick up a used Jackson or Charvel bass. My Charvel has active EMG's, and a very sweet neck!

My Valenti, but you can't have that one. I will toss out the idea of a G&L SB-2, however, as my second choice.

I know you said your not to stuck on Fender but they have a MIJ Jazz bass JB75 pj. with PJ pickups, alder body and a GREAT playing neck (no not an Aerodyne guys), and US pickups & sounds great too. COmes in black, white and candy red. Only downer is it cost $1300. But very sweet. Just a thought.
