i recently picked up a mooer lo fi machine. haven't quite put it through its paces yet, but i'm digging it so far.

i like the mix knob. the sample knob is a bit touchy and barely usable past a certain threshold. i usually have the bit knob at 1-2 o'clock. it has been worth the cost to me as i picked it up used and made some trades for it, getting out the door -$10. i liked the simple control layout and small footprint.

it's a good toy for the cost, but i think there are some better ones out there, although they are more expensive. the earthquaker devices bit commander looks like fun as well, but i don't have any direct experience with it.

There's a single pot on there and inexpensive it is too
I haven't assembled it yet however as really, I am NOT
'mr solder king'.

I had some interesting fun a while back by cranking some music through my cheap cell phone, holding the little speaker up to the pickup of my Stingray 5, and kicking on a fuzz, envelope filter, and delay. No actual bass playing involved, but it got some attention...

I also really like the ring mod in the Line 6 M9, and the way you can tie params to an expression pedal.

oh damn, my bad. I've seen his other posts and thought it was out of character for him to make a comment like that. He's always seemed like a cool guy to me.

do you use the older stompbox version of the bugcrusher or the newer 'desktop' version?

I'm a big fan of the POG2 (+2 octave, +1 octave, -1 octave -2 octave, and LP filter at 50%), MWBD (Foldback distortion with distortion mix mapped to the expression pedal. Toe down is 100% clean tone/ toe up is 100% distorted tone), and any reverb set to cave, e-dome, or arena settings. The POG2 sounds like an organ pad, the MWBD with the expression pedal gives you swells in addition to really pulling the octaves apart, and the reverb keeps everything nice and smooth. It sounds nothing like a bass. It makes sound guys angry. I love both of those statements.

I got it from the Tonebutcher website. 135 shipped. Its a fun box. And very small. I keep it off board on a table. Its fun to twist the knobs. I have managed to use it musically in a couple songs in my band and for full blown stupid sounds. It is very unique.

Brian is a big reason I got it. I have talked about Tonebutcher stuff with him at a few Russian Circles shows. He's a nice guy.
