As I understand the story, Sir Paul's psychedelic paint job bass started as a fireglow, got painted psych'y, then got sanded off, leaving the faux-mapleglo bass he played with Wings and sometimes after.

Tragically, he never did. However, he did get an exact replica made and he absolutely loves it.

The Hagström Super Swede that Rutger Gunnarsson played on ABBA tracks.
He contributed to the design as well, but the "signature bass" concept wasn't yet in vogue.

1. I've never had a chance to see one up-close, but the Fender Victor Bailey Jazz always struck me as an epitome of "Class".

2. My long-lost Fender Japan Limited Edition "All-Black" JB62. Who knows? Maybe I'll be able to snag another one someday. <crosses fingers>

3. Last, certainly not least and still my personal champion…my very own "Projekt Blue". Curated and assembled by yours truly, it's a mash-up of a Mighty Mite Jazz (body) and a Fender Aerodyne (neck) with a dash of "Reggie Hamilton", a wee bit o' Hipshot, a series/parallel electronics suite and some visual touches courtesy of Jockomo and Sharpie to enhance it's "cool".

I can't find a picture of it anywhere, and Bootleg Guitars' website has vanished, but I've always been fascinated by this one-off that Matt Freeman played (seemingly just once). It's Jon Hill's company, and I've never seen one like it.

The Dean Hillsboro bass series looks very similar to this and come in a lot of different pickup configurations. Perhaps you need to check those out since they are very affordable and play very well.

I'm pretty sure I read that they rented the bass, guitar, and drums that they used for that old Fly By Night video (and the Anthem video they filmed in that same session). You never see Ged use a white 4001 anywhere else. Same thing for that walnut brown ES-345 or 355 or whatever it is, that Alex is using. And same thing for the all-concert-tom chrome Slingerland set Neil's using.

Really cool information. Indeed I have never seen Geddy Lee with a white 4001 again. It did do look awesome though.

It's great looking and I can lots of sound from it, downside was that Fender went with some cheap plastics for the tuners. I have the V, and about a month after playing it hard the "g" tuner just split. However, that was about seven years ago, and it's been great since
