your first ever bass

My first bass was a '95 MIJ Fender Precision (in Daphne blue)...which I got in '95. It was my only bass until last month when I bought a Roscoe SKB3006. Talk about night and day.

'85 Peavey Patriot. Black body/pickguard, warped maple neck/fretboard, and the noisiest pickup I've ever heard. The chrome hardware was really nice though.

In 1973 at the age of 13 I recieved my first bass. It was an El Cheapo P bass copy from Japan. The only writing on it is MIJ on the back of the headstock.

I soon decided it would look cool with a bullet hole in the middle, so I had my Dad shoot it with his Pre-1964 Winchester Model 94 .30/.30. I was right. It still looks cool as I still have the bass and the rifle.

My first bass would have been Ric, but they were way out of my budget. It was the late 70's and I was really into Geddy Lee and Chris Squire. I bought this Univox copy in 1977 and still have it and play it today.

I got my first bass in the late '80s or very early '90s. I had it till about 2007 when all my gear was sold due to my medical problems. it showed up online last summer and prompted my posting a thread here where I finally decided to buy it back. It is currently in storage at a friend's while I continue to deal with medical and housing issues. At some point I will either fix it up and use it or sell it and move on.

Hamer Slammer, and yes I still have it. Don't play it much anymore though -- pretty much stick to my Fender and Grind.

I still have mine! I just played it yesterday, in fact:

Carvin USA LB-50 4-string, 1984, ebony fretboard, rock maple body, natural finish, stereo-outputs.

I paid under $400 for it, brand new and customized, because all of the "options" I selected (maple body, ebony board, natural finish) were free. When I open the case, I often get the same feeling I did when it first arrived.

I rarely slap, but this is still the best slapper I have ever owned.

This reminds me of William Tell. (Hopefully, you had it slung EXTRA low though.)

Got it for my 15th, having convinced my parents that I would follow up my music classes and take up bass full-time, and that I really needed something that looked awesome, no other criteria at all. Almost two years later, it's my #1 (ahead of a Precision Special) for gigging and recording.

My first was a nice black Peavey T-40 bass in 1980, now long gone (bummer). I do still however have my Ibanez RD-707 bass bought new in 1987. I sold it in "95 and got it back some 10 years later from the friend I sold it too. whew! I will never do that again!

My first bass was a Fender Jazz copy... (sunburst.. can't even remember the name)
Then I got an El Degas Grabber (ash)....
then it was a Guild B301 (mahogany).....

After that was when I got my Elias. I've had it for 27 years now.
I am going to get a real Fender Jazz bass at sometime in the future...
I am waiting for my custom Jerzy Drozd VI at present

fernandes p copy -- kind of a waste of time, to be honest. dull, thuddy tone, never felt right under my hands. i switched to an american jazz only a few years after that (my only axe to-date).

1985 Westone Spectrum ST in white. Paid £110 for it and played it that much, the finish on the neck wore down to the wood in 3 years!

I built my first, a fake j-bass. I still have bits and pieces of it... The body and tuners are on my son's, the neck is on my Squier P.

Reduce/Reuse/Recycle! I suck at the first R, so I do a lot of the other two.

2001 Ibanez SR400BK... bought March 3, 2001 from Ritchie's Music in Rockaway, NJ. I believe it was $374.99 at the time.

It was my 14th birthday present three weeks later, but every time my parents left the house, I'd sneak upstairs and play it. They thought I was some kind of virtuoso when I could play a few songs the "first time I opened the case"
