Your first pedal

this is my only one so far......beat machine, tuner, looper, 100 effects(distortions, reverbs, choruses), amp and cab simulations. ...well under $100 Cdn....so far so good

For a whole lot of years, I had no shiny boxes to step on. It was a slippery slope. Now I have a bunch of 'em, but don't use most of 'em.

I had a couple EHX guitar pedals for a while. They were my brother's, and he's got them again now. I never used them. My favorite pedal to not use is an old Morley oil can echo/wah/volume unit. I hesitate to call it a pedal because it's bigger than a small pedal board all by itself.

All I use live is the wireless receiver which doubles as a tuner, a high pass filter, and a ToneHammer pedal. All I really need for BG is the wireless receiver unless I use a cable. The other stuff is mostly to make the upright sound like itself through a combo amp that doesn't get along with its piezo pickup without a whole lot of mediation. I use it all anyway, mostly because I'm just used to it. That's it.

I don't use much in the way of pedals for guitar, either, but then I don't play guitar in front of people. That hasn't stopped me from buying them on occasion to see what they do.

I'm pretty sure my first bass pedal was a Trace Elliot 2-band compressor. For years I just plugged straight in. Now of course I have incurable bass pedal GAS.

My first pedal was one of the early Boss GE-7 graphicI did I wo would put it to use.equalizers. I used it on both guitar and bass. A guitarist in my current band has it now and it still works!!

I never bought the bass version as I really liked the frequency points on the pedal especially in the 100, 200, 400 and 800 Hz range if I recall those points correctly. As I looked at the GE-7 and GEB-7 I was never tempted to change since my amp controls had the low frequency range (40-80Hz) covered and could tame the extreme upper end. I was looking for more control over that critical low-mid and mid-mid area.

Today, many of the newer amps and pedals are offering us a lot control in those frequency ranges that I liked the GE-7 for, so I feel a bit vindicated for being ahead of my time and for not feeling compelled to use a bass specific pedal! :)
I have one I bought in 1983-85. I used it alot, enhanced mids nicely. Don't play in a baband anymore but if i did i would put it to work. It still works.

Digitech BXW bass synth wah...had it for about 6 years. It really helped me expirement with crazy filters and tones through my teens, an envelope filter is great for starting out..not just to have fun with, but to see what's possible. Only reason I don't have it anymore is I now have the Manta :[

Boss OC-2. I was extremely bummed that it made *lower* octaves. I briefly considered playing an octave higher, but rejected that idea. I wanted something to sound like me on bass and a guitar doubling an octave higher.

I pawned it for almost nothing.

I have one now and love it. My nagging fear is that it was one of the more prized "Octaver" ones, but I will never know.
