I picked up an SR1600 in December as my first bass and fell in love with it. Now I'm working on selling my Guitar gear to fund more bass addiction. There are 3 basses I really want, however my next will most definitely be a 5 string. I'm looking at the following for future purchases and I fully intend to get all 3.

Ibanez SR1605e - I don't need much opinion on this as I already have the 4 string version and LOVE it.

Schecter Stiletto Studio 5 - I know the 'custom' is technically nicer hardware-wise - but the black satin finish on the Studio is so damn sexy. I'm a touch wary about getting this though as all the Schecter guitars I have tried are not very good or reliable.

Dean Eric Bass Sig - I love the look of it. I wish they made one that was higher end, but what can ya do.

I had a Schecter SS5 exactly like that one. A very well made bass. Very solid. The string spacing as a bit tight for me. I found out eventually that I prefer the wider 19mm spacing but the bass itself is very nice. This was my second 5er and a step up from my SR505 which was the bass that introduced me to 5 strings.

I can only comment on the Stiletto 5, as that is the only one I have played.

I love the sound and feel of that bass. I also have a schecter guitar and I can attest that it is a POS, but the stiletto really performs. It reminds me a bit of an active J bass.

Plus, Nick McMaster plays one.

I own a Schecter Stiletto Elite 5 and the only real complaint is I had to re-solder my input jack. Other then that, it's been a very good bass for me. But it seems you enjoy your Ibanez so maybe getting another one would be the way to go.

Which I intend on doing, but It's a bit pricey at almost $1400. That is why I was looking at the Schecter for a reasonably priced 'from what I hear' good 5 string. I'm open to other suggestions as well. I am NOT a fan of fenders though.

I have played the left handed Ibanez SR1205 and I liked it as an instrument. Build and finish solid, neck neither thin nor thick but very usable, electronics flexible and natural tone full and pleasing. A good instrument that I would have bought if I was in the market for a 5 stringer.

Not played either of the other options, living in the UK and being left handed means my options tend to be limited!

@BassGoblin, my apologies, I didn't click the link for the Ibanez to check it out. I didn't think Ibanez basses went for so much, but then again, Ibanez basses aren't my cup of tea. Aside from my previous statement about my Schecter's input jack, it's been good to me.

If you want something higher end you might contact Dean about a custom shop Eric Bass. They do make custom shop Hillsboro basses...the satin-finish necks are among the smoothest-feeling necks made.
This 5-string in natural finish is on ebay right now.
