My wife & I kinda panicked at the last minute when we realized we hadn't chosen a First Dance, so we wound up with The Righteous Brothers' "Unchained Melody" because A) we both don't hate the tune; B) we both knew we could dance intimately to it without feeling completely self-conscious; and C) I really dig Power Tools' cover of it, from their 1986 debut album Strange Meeting. But in hindsight, I think we both would've rather put a lot more thought into it.

It was a Church wedding...1980...We had both been simply overwhelmed by Willie Nelson's "Stardust". That record really opened the door to the American Songbook for both of us. There was a point during the ceremony when my best, good friend, Gary Helsley, played a flawless guitar pickin' version of "Someone To Watch Over Me", and the recessional was Gary playing and several of my old band mates singing "On The Sunny Side Of The Street". We didn't have an actual reception. We all went back to my Mom's house and played and sang into the wee hours.

We got married in London, near where my wife grew up. The preacher forgot the key to the church and I was figuring out how to break into the church when the sexton turned up with a key and saved a few minute. And probably a discussion with somebody associated with the law. The preacher could have vouched for what was going on. We didn't want a big wedding, since it was the being married part that was important. The reception was at her mother's house. No band, no first dance, nothing like that, but it sure was fun.
