Youtube covers setup?

Alright... so currently what I do for covering stuff is I go bass/amp/Blue Snowball USB mic/computer/audacity. I play the track in Audacity, and play along top it, micing my amp.

Any recommendations as to how to get better sound? I compress the bass track before saving the tracks in Audacity. Any other effects I should use on the bass track?

**note, I suck at bass, so my covers are simply stuff.

I'll be watching this thread closely. I use the recorder on the Amplitube iPhone app and also use Audacity for the mix. Still haven't gotten a very good tone, as my open strings (especially open A) sound funky.
