I've been using Wondershare Uniconverter for several years. I believe they have (had?) a "free" online version, but it was clumsy. And from a security standpoint, I am much more concerned about doing regular online "free" downloads than using a paid-for product. I ponied up the small fee (looks like their pricing has gone up some since I bought) to buy the product and use it all the time for Youtube to MP3 as well as other format conversions.

I like the product so much I also got their Filmora product (video editor).

There are many out there. No malware, no programs to download. Some sites offer 320kbps bit rates... but depending on what the original YT link was uploaded as may not be true 320. But higher quality options are nice if this should matter to you.

I've observed that some of these sites will turn wonky and no longer work... but you got get a new one with Google and you're back to the races again. Basically, they all work the same.

Since the functional purpose for of these kinds of tools is to treat YouTube like Napster, you're going to be exposing yourself to some level of risk. I'm not saying there aren't legitimate uses for them, or fully above-board created tools, but as the primary use case is to pirate music many/most of the "developers" probably aren't looking to make a "very respectable product."

I'll give you one guess why the sites "turn wonky" and get shut down, then the same tool appears at another site...

And there is malware that you don't have to download to have infect your machine - clicking an action button on a website can do it.

Just remember that your YouTube account is your Google account, so any site that has you login to YouTube through the site to access your YT content/playlists is being given the keys to everything you have with Google.
