Zachary Strings - What's with this guy?

Awesome - care to share any "sets" you've worked up?
I'm happy to share but the sets I developed are for fifths tunings
... and anyway I would encourage people to experiment and develop their own unique set optimised for their needs and technique.Your 105 75 55 40 looks good, looking at the D'Addario tension chart for XL nickel roundwounds.
It can be extended to BEADGC ...
145 105 75 55 40 28w
For a lighter BEADGC ...
135 95 70 50 35 25w
Both of these are the most gradual fall in tension possible going by the gauges available in D'Addario XL nickel roundwounds. These are good places to start.
I'm amazed at Zachary Guitars' reaction to the OP's email. I thought the OP's enquiry was actually quite positive, and had interest in the ZOG concept. My advice, build your own set from singles using the tension charts.
Zachary Guitars also states that a more extreme tension gradient is needed for a short scale bass, well I don't think so, just slightly larger gauges ...
Alex from Zachary Guitars sells clarinets and flutes to students through ZacharyMusic.com. He builds guitars and the occasional amp or effect through his alter ego, ZacharyGuitars.com where he tries to p-$$ off the world. Apparently he makes money from the flutes and clarinets and has fun with the guitars. If he's so good at everything, then why hasn't anyone of any note picked up on the great things he's done? Ah, I know, it's a music industry conspiracy.
I tried to buy one of his Z2 guitars several years ago and he seemed quite normal when we talking about options. As soon as I sent a deposit he made a 180 change and I was told that I would get what he decided to build for me. He's an artist and I shouldn't get in the way of his greatness or something like that. Ok, order canceled and I got $350 of my $500 deposit back. I'll count that as $150 worth of education.
I think he has some pretty good ideas, but he has some major issues getting in the way of getting those ideas out there. Maybe he fears success? It's a shame really. I got to play one of his guitars and it played nicely but had some major electronic issues that he was giving the owner a lot of hassle about. Seems there is no customer service after the sale, but maybe he made good on things after I talked to the owner.
The other possibility is that he's perfectly sane and knows that the more he flips his middle at the world, the more they'll talk about him and someone will want to buy his stuff. Personally I would rather buy cabinets from Dr Bass.

...so one could get the D'Addario 35 > 95 4 string set and just add their 135 on top ??? tapered or non-tapered ?

Me neither, he'll never see a penny of my money. He is truly a moron in his valuation of personal contacts. Too bad there are so many insecure people who suck up to that kind of abuse.
It's pretty easy to order strings from him - just follow the instructions on the website and ASK NO QUESTIONS - and don't be "chatty" lest you accidentally set him off

Nope, don't do that lest "The Wrath of Alex" befalls ye. I made that mistake myself. After all, there is only "One True Gauge" - all others are false gauges

This is funny to me, years ago the same questions were asked on Trumpetherald.com He has a couple of trumpets he's made stupid claims about, abused potential customers and was booted off the forum. His Olympus trumpet looks interesting, but he wouldn't disclose who made them. It looks like a Kanstul made in the US. I can buy a Kanstul (or a Wild Thing)(yes, that's a trumpet, the guy on Letterman plays one) just like it and be treated with common decency by real craftsmen.
This clown could have the greatest strings ever made, and I would NOT do business with him.

Well the D'Addario set is 35 55 75 95, it's close and will work okay. However if you want that perfect steady fall in tension buy singles and go 135 95 70 50 35

I just read one of the descriptions about the 4 string round wound set.
