Zakir Hussain RIP

When I was a kid, maybe 17, I got the 8-track of Yehudi Menuhin and Ravi Shankar called East to West. That had Alla Rakha on tabla, not Zakir Hussein, but it started a lifelong fascination with Indian music. And, of course Tabla Beat Science was wonderful. I'm sorry to hear that such a master has passed. Tabla is such an amazing instrument, and is the "bass" in a lot of Indian Music. RIP indeed.

For anyone who does not know, Alla Rakha was Zakir’s father.

RIP Zakir Hussain
Got the news last night when I was rehearsing with NightHarvest, which is lead by Jim Hurley (Violin/multi-instrumentalist).
Zakir played on one of Jim's tunes, Lakshmi Rocks Me, in the band Ancient Future. We were all saddened to hear the news.
