Double Bass Zeta Educator Uprite Bass- $1,000: questions

I have come across a Zeta Educator Uprite Bass for $1,000. Is this a good deal or a good bass?

what are pros and cons of the Electric Upright and this specific model?

I am just starting double bass, i have played the regular acoustic before, but is there any reason i should start on a regular acoustic rather than an EUB?

I used to know a guy that was a rep for Zeta. He kept trying to get me to buy one. I think that $1000 is good price if it is new, just ok if it is used.

As far as playability? I am an admitted DB purist. I thought about getting an EUB for a rock/gypsy/world music band I was playing with. I tried a Zeta educator on my friends' urging. Sounded just like my Fender Jazz fretless. Didn't do it for me.

Zeta, is very good for what it is. I had one for 9 months. I found it sounds nothing like an upright and responds uniquely. Useful in many situations, but a poor substitute for the wood. I also ran mine through an aguilar preamp smooth out the harsh high end-everything sounds great through this preamp. If your goal is to get some upright chops together you would be doing yourself a disservice. The necks feel great, but there are no shoulders as on a real upright, and the lack of body depth, could adversely affect your stance. Still, I found it very cool on groove gigs, and latin jazz gigs. Great sustain, and a much bigger fundamental than any slab. Not much punch, but interesting things can be done with just stopping the note, as far as moving air...
