Details

Zon Sonus 8 string, quilt maple / black hardware
Sounds great, plays like a Zon Sonus.
Older preamp arrangement - stacked V V / T T. All electronics / hardware is stock.

This is a non truss-rod Zon. I'm still not sure why Joe bothered to start using truss rods - I've owned several Zons and the necks are always rock solid.

In very good condition, just a few hard to see dings.
With hardshell case (shown)

No trades - none. Sorry.

OMG, I so remember when these first came out. The Bass Player review was so stellar and I have dreamed of having one of these for years! I wish could justify picking it up!

Nice. One of my few sold basses that I actually miss was the Sonus 8. Mine was the actual one reviewed in BP way back then, now it lives in Hawaii! glwts

The implication is that this one too has been solid, but, having been bit in the ass by both non-trussrod graphite-necked instruments and 8-string instruments in the past, I can't not ask:

Neck is straight, no bows or twists, and action is uniform end-to-end?

Thanks.

Yes - so far as I can tell, I can play every note on it with zero issue.

Not sure why Zon felt that they needed to add a truss rod - it makes the necks thicker and I see no benefit. I've owned... yikes - about 10 Zons over the years, none with truss rods and neck instability has *never* been an issue.

My rod-less Sonus 8 had no neck issues at all, nor did my rod-less 4/2.

I think that Joe must have started with the Truss rods when he went to 35" - and decided it was a "marketing thing". I've played brand new, top of the line Zons and I prefer the old ones.

The first 2 digits of the serial number should tell you the year.

Very nice Zon by the way, I own 2 fretless non truss rod Zons, never a movement on either.
I can't believe this hasn't been sold yet.

That red bass is for sale again by Jon in Hawaii. I think he's asking a dear price for it, but it's on Reverb if you want to check it out.

Dear price indeed! Sweet bass to be sure. Thanks for the tip, always fun to watch the travels of an instrument.

Anyone know who bought this blue beauty? It would be nice to hear what's happened to it in the meantime.
