Zoom B1 On / B1 Xon - what about the preamp and compressor simulations?

Hello,

First sorry for my " English"

I'm owner of 2 passiv basses, I'm looking for a compressor and a preamp pedals. ( and Tuner).
these stuffs are quite expensive....
So I'm interessting by the new zoom b1on.

are the preamp and compressor simulations good ???

I know that the B3 is good fx unit, but more expensive, with no aux input (mp3), and I don't need
usb unit for my computer.
I'm not an addict of effects ....
I just need a preamp + compressor+ tuner + (sometimes chorus or delay). I own an overdrive pedal.

So is it a good Idea to buy a zoom b1on ?
is it better to wait and buy 3 good pedals ( tuner/ preamp / compressor) ?
is it better to buy the zoom B3 ?
Other solution ???

Please note : I'm not a professional, I'm not rich, I'm an eternal beginner ( since 20 years)

IMO, yes, they are very good for the price point and what youre getting. They are very great tools and they sound and function wonderfully. Again, for the price point, theyre almost impossible to beat. I have the B1Xon, the MS60B and the 70CDR. All are great and used often. I use the MS60 and 70 on my main board and I use the B1Xon at home a lot. Have nothing but good to say about these pedals. And yes, the preamps/amp sims and comps are pretty good. You just have to be patient and learn the pedal, dial them in. It takes time sometimes, but as long as you take the time and learn the pedal, I think youll be very pleased.

Also, single pedals are good too. But sometimes, we just have to go with what we can afford. Ive heard nothing but good things of the B3. I prefer single pedals myself. But, I also like to have a tool like the 60b and 70cdr on my board. The Zoom pedals are PERFECT starts to learning what you want and need. SO worth it.

So If I undersood you, you use it at home and during your gigs, you take the Ms60.
I see that's the same simulations, but the ms60 looks solid ( metal instead of plastic).

Wich one is the easiet to use ???

They both have a learning curve, but they both are easy to use once you figure them out. The B1on is actually a little easier at first because it comes with a ton of pre-loaded patches that are immediately usable (the 60b takes a fair amount of tweaking). I have both units and use them the same way as Greg. However, I have used the B1on at a gig as a compressor and preamp and just left it on top of my amp (for me, the plastic case isn't the real problem for live use...it's the flimsy pedal switches). The tuner on it is good, as well, but it doesn't mute when engaged, if that's a concern.

So if you are just using the compressor, preamp and tuner, the B1on would be a great place to start, esp for the money. You could post in one of the B1on/B1xon threads asking for suggestions on which compressors and preamps to use and people would be glad to help.

Yes, you could get better pedals buying these effects individually, but the Zoom simulations sound just fine. I gig them a lot alongside much more expensive pedals.

Yes, I do use the 60b in a live setting because its more durable, yes, and it is easier to use for me in a live setting, ie I can use it/set it as a single stomp box and forget about and engage it when I want to, and its small. The size of a Boss style pedal. The B1Xon is obviously larger and is made of plastic. Strong and duraable plastic but plastic none the less. I like it at home for the headphone feature, the AUX out so I can play along to songs on my iPod with it and for the use of effects when I dont feel like lugging my main board out. I must point out as well that the B1Xon as a few more amp sims and effects that the 60b does not. But the 60b is still chalk full of stuff. It depends on how much you want to spend and what youll be using it for. You may be better off getting the B3. It seems that it may be a good mix of what the 60b and B1on are minus the expression pedal and a few various effects here and there. Def ask questions and study up to make a good decision whats best for you. If you can afford them, get a couple of them. Like the B1Xon and the 60b or the B3 and B1on maybe.

And yes, they both take a little time to learn and how to navigate. But it can easily be picked up with a few hours of fiddling. They are really quite intuitive to interface with.
