Zoom b3 patch Ideas

This is my main 'funk' patch that I like for a couple tunes I play (Stevie Wonder, Jeff Beck) that comp keyboard riffs:

Position 1 - (Ensemble)
Depth 48, Rate 30, Mix 75, Tone 5, Level 100

Position 2 - (Graphic EQ)
50Hz (-4), 120Hz (-3), 400Hz (-1), 500hz (0), 800Hz (+2), 4.5kHz (+5), 10kHz (+6)

Position 3 - (M Comp)
THRSH 38, Ratio 9, Attack 9, Level 80

Your experience may vary :) Hope you enjoy. Note: I play predominantly w/ my Jazz bass w/ American Standard pups and an Audere Pro preamp through either my SVT or my little BA210 for garage practice; amps are always set w/ their EQ flat, as well as (usually) EQ flat on my bass. Let your hands do the "tone work"!
Thanks ! I will try it tomorrow :).

I'm still funking around trying to find "old" tones from my B3. Rather than making a hodgepodge of noise with 3 different pedals (effects), I'm staying old school and seeing what I can create/revise (from my old tones I've gigged with over the years) for something fresh to my ears. Remember when we just plugged straight in without a pedal board? I do. I wonder what goodness I could get from "just" an amp patch?

Today I'm playing with the Acoustic 360 effect. In my classic rock world, of course the 2 players that come to mind are John Paul Jones and Noel Redding (for REAL Jimi fans, did you know the Experience Music Project in Seattle has one of Noel's 360's AND one of his main J basses? Waaaay cool.) Anyway, today I goofed a bit with the Acoustic patch and tried dialing in close to what my ears hear on what I'd call THE Acoustic 360 amp sound, the blessed goodness that is named "Led Zeppelin II". To my ears, it's a driven tone -- but not to the point of overdriven/breaking up -- with a little woolly honk goodness, not overly pronounced low or high freqs that are emphasized in the mix. For those of you JPJ fans, hopefully this might be something interesting to your ears. I use nearly 100% mix to mainly get that old fuzz tone.

Joe's Zeppelin II

Slot 1 (Acoustic 360)
Gain 80
Bass 1
Mid 2
Mid F: 400Hz
Treble: 3
Bright: On
Level: 27
Cab: 1x18AC
Mix: 90

This was through my 2011 Highway One Jazz with the stock American Standard pups and 4-band Audere pre, loaded with TI flats. To my ears it's pretty decent - I imagine the 'coloring' might change if I ran it into my amps. Come to think of it, do your B3 patches sound markedly different when you run it through your amp? Do you have a version of your patches that you use when running straight to your board, and another that you use when going through your amp? Inquiring minds would like to know :)

Hey @Crystalman85 , could you help me get Simon Grove's tone? It's definitely a B7K with scooped mids and something else.

Apart from the synth tone. Although if you could figure that out too, it'd be cool.

Thanks!

Sounds like a b7k with warm lows. try this modified version of the metallic grind patch.

Metallic grind(b7k ultra emulation)

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 4, level: 90, attack: 7

Section 2: metalwrld: gain: 25, tone: 50, level: 100, balance: 20

Section 3: svt: bass: 4, mid: 3, treble: -2, midfq: 2500hz, gain: 40, level: 40, ultra: both, cab: ag1x15, mix: 50

@Crystalman85 - I have harvested many of your patches and they are awesome! Thanks so much for all of your contributions. I have one song that I am struggling to dial in. Any chance you can help?

It's good and funky:

Sounds to me like a p-bass. you can get this sound using the neck pickup and a mid-focus amp model. give this patch a try and see if it works.

d comp: sense: 3, tone: 5, attack: fast, level: 100

Aguilar: bass: 2, mid: 7, treble: 0, midfq: 400hz, gain: 50, level: 80, char: both, cab: ag1x15, mix: 50

Any ideas how to achieve this tone? Bass kicks in right around :20. Thanks.

If you have a punchy sounding bass, give this patch a try.

Metallic grind 2(modified b7k ultra emulation)

Section 1: m comp: thresh: 20, ratio: 4, level: 90, attack: 7

Section 2: squeak: gain: 25, tone: 50, level: 100, balance: 25

Section 3: svt: bass: 3, mid: 4, treble: 2, midfq: 300hz, gain: 40, level: 40, ultra: both, cab: ag8x10, mix: 50

Killer tune by the way. \m/

Interesting patch. Did you go buy another B3?

Is there a way to use the splitter so that the low end is just clean, and use the tube screamer to overdrive the top end? That would be really useful for bass, to keep the low end
Good question. To me (an effect ignoranamus, even if I've played 40+ years), I think that's one of the few real limitations on the B3, namely that there's no crossover effect that can let you emphasize one part of the spectrum without affecting the rest. Maybe you can get a tone you like using the ParaEQ > Tube Screamer and crank the gain on the low freq to jack it up. Still, there's only one Level setting for the pedal so there's not really a good way to say "I want 80% of the low end signal from this and 50% of the high end". I guess this is a great example of part of what you can/can't do on multi-effects gear. Too bad they don't have a EH Deluxe Bass Big Muff Pi effect on the B3!

Hi all , Anyone got near to a Cello sound , as I need one for RUBY TUESDAY ( Stones Tribute Band I`m in ) Tried the the Swell effect , does not nail it .
Pete
I'm going to have to break out that album (the Stone's "Flowers" LP) and play around w/ that a bit. Maybe this (from another post in this thread) might be closer than the Swell effect?

From my earlier post:

Spending some time experimenting with some of the effects on my B3 that I've never used. An interesting one that I'm kind of digging is the Slow ATTCK effect. Explanation of the Slow ATTCK effect is, "This effect slows the attack of each note, resulting in a violin like performance". I dug through some of my music library and played along with some tunes that I thought had some cool orchestral parts, and here's what I have come up with so far.

Slow ATTCK settings:
Time: 1
Curve: 0
Level: 71

My thoughts are this is a decent effect when used properly! With the time/curve settings, to my ear a little goes a LONG way, so I have them dialed waaaay back. The level setting is what I call my parity level - meaning you can turn the patch on and off and not have a huge drop/gain in volume. I'm thinking this would sound even cooler with some compression, so I'm currently experimenting with that and seeing if I can smooth my attack a bit more. I think the Slow ATTCK sounds best when you play legato (in a smooth and flowing manner); I found in some cases sliding to the next note rather than crossing over had a nice, mellow, natural sound and feel to it. The song I was experimenting with was the first half of the Elton John classic "Funeral for a Friend/Love Lies Bleeding", when the song goes to the second part I swap to my "clean beef" patch. One thing I noticed is some places when the attack fades in it comes across as I was a little late on my attack. I think getting to know this patch a bit better and maybe incorporating just a bit of anticipation might fix that little timing hitch.

Experiment! Have fun! I'm still digging my swiss army knife pedal!

Thanks Guiseppe ,
I will try this setting later today . Did my first gig with the Stones Tribute Band last night during the sound check , used a swell pedal ( the M-Audio one - cheapo , just to try out at volume ) it was ok , but very inconsistant with my swell attack , thats why I would prefer to have it set in the B3n .
Thanks for your input .
Pete
